Accessibility statement
SUPPORT-Y wants as many people as possible to be able to use this website, including people with disabilities. This statement describes how accessible www.support-y.eu is, what we know does not yet work well, and how to get help.
This statement is also available in: Suomi · Svenska
Compliance status
This website is compliant with the harmonised European standard EN 301 549 v3.2.1 (which incorporates the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.1, level AA), based on the self-assessment described below.
The website is provided by the University of Eastern Finland, a Finnish public university, and this statement is prepared in line with the Finnish Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019), which implements the Web Accessibility Directive (Directive (EU) 2016/2102), and with the model statement in Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2018/1523.
Non-accessible content
Non-compliance with the standard
We are not aware of any content on this website that does not meet the requirements.
Limits of the assessment
Language versions (Finnish, Portuguese, Latvian, German, Estonian, Maltese)
Situation: The home and Consortium pages in all six languages were checked with automated tools and a code review, like the English pages. They have not yet been tested with assistive technology by users.
Planned action: Included in the planned user testing; this statement will be updated with the results.
Manual testing with assistive technology
Situation: The home and Consortium pages were checked with automated tools and a manual code review. It has not yet been tested with screen-reader software (such as NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver) or by people who use screen readers, magnification, speech input or switch devices.
Planned action: User testing with people with disabilities is planned; this statement will be updated with the results.
Documents and publications (PDF, Word, slides) added later
Situation: Project deliverables and publications may not be fully accessible when first published.
Planned action: We aim to publish accessible versions; an accessible alternative is available on request (see below).
Decorative moving graphic on the home page
Situation: The hero illustration is animated. It can be paused with the “Pause animation” button and is paused automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
Planned action: None – listed for transparency.
Disproportionate burden
We have not claimed any disproportionate burden exemption.
Content outside the scope of the legislation
Content on third-party platforms that we link to (LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X and Bluesky) is controlled by those providers and is not covered by this statement.
What we have done
- A “Skip to main content” link and clear page landmarks (navigation, main content, footer).
- A logical heading structure and descriptive link text.
- Text and controls meet the required colour contrast (checked with automated testing, 4.5:1 for text).
- Full keyboard operation of menus and the language selector, with a visible focus indicator; the Escape key closes open menus.
- Decorative images, flags and icons are hidden from screen readers; informative images have text alternatives. Flags are built into the pages, so no data is requested from third-party image servers.
- Content reflows on small screens and supports browser zoom.
- Animations can be paused and respect the “reduce motion” setting of your device.
- The language of the page is declared, and each language option names its own language.
- We do not use accessibility overlay widgets; issues are fixed at source.
How this statement was prepared
This statement was prepared on 13 October 2026 using a self-assessment. The home page and the Consortium page, in English and in the six other languages, and the accessibility statements themselves were tested in the Chromium browser with: the automated engines axe-core (WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 level A and AA rules) and IBM Equal Access; a scripted keyboard test (tab order, visible focus, skip link, menus and language selector); inspection of the accessibility tree that screen readers use; a pixel-level colour-contrast check that includes gradients and hover and focus states; reflow down to 320 CSS pixels (equivalent to 400 % zoom); increased text spacing; reduced-motion settings; HTML validation; and a manual review of the page source.
We will review and update this statement at least once a year and whenever the website changes significantly.
